Day 10: Stockholm
Stockholm city proper isn't very big. You can visit most of the sights on foot. On hindsight, I should have planned to move on to Oslo a day earlier. There wasn't much else that I really wanted to see in Stockholm.
I decided to spend half a day ambling eastwards to the other side of Gamla Stan. I started my walk at St Clara Kyrka. It is very difficult to miss this church as its very tall steeple is very visible in the surroundings.
Enroute to the Royal Opera house, I was pleasantly surprised by the striking red St Jacobs Kyrka. The Royal Opera house was grand, but did not particularly impress. I crossed the bridge leading to Gamla Stan, and snapped several more photos of Storkyrkan. This is the oldest church in the Old Town. Dark clouds gathered soon after, and I hurried back to the Central Railway station.

I was attended to by a friendly and helpful lady staff who helped to make my seat reservation for my train to Oslo the following day. I decided to also check if she could make reservations for the rest of my train travel dates. The remaining three train rides were all night trains, and I wanted a sleeper for all of them. For some reason or the other, she could not reserve a sleeper for me for the Oslo to Bergen segment, but managed to reserved a sleeper in a double compartment for my Finland trains. I'll have to check when I arrive in Oslo, and I'm definitely looking forward to my first sleeper experience!
The rain stopped a little later in the afternoon. I almost forgot to get Hard Rock Cafe shot glasses for a friend, and as HRC is some way further north, I took a slow walk northwards. It was a pleasant walk. There were hardly any tourists, and I had a glimpse of local life on a typical weekday afternoon.
Ahlens - the biggest department store in the city
You know elections are round the corner when you see this
